When I bought my Mac Pro, Apple wanted the best part of £1000 for 8 gigs worth of memory! I purchased 2 sets of these DIMMs instead for a third of the cost.

Apple print a lot of cautionary notes in their manual about only using Apple approved RAM, using unapproved RAM will cause the temperature to rise and make the machine noisier, unapproved memory might overheat and self destruct, and so on. But in practice, this memory is identical to the Apple memory in every way, it even has the same design of heat sink.

Installing the memory was a five minute job, you don't even need a screwdriver. Just open the computer, pull out the riser cards, install the RAM, put everything back in place and away you go. I decided to leave the 2 gig of memory that Apple supplied inside my machine, for a total of 10 gig of system RAM.

In spite of the dire warnings from Apple, there have been no problems whatsoever. The machine doesn't run any hotter, doesn't get any noisier or has any stability problems. The new RAM even works alongside the original Apple supplied memory without problems.

If you are planning to buy a Mac Pro, don't buy memory from Apple. Buy the default amount of memory and then add extra using this memory kit. You'll save hundreds of pounds.
