Office 2007 has under gone a dramatic visual change to the User Interface (UI), out go the drop down menus and in come Ribbons. Each Ribbon has all of the options available for that menu and is not customizable so you either like it or lump it. If you are a competent Office user, the new version will take an age to master as nothing is the way it was. Office also introduces new file formats which are not backward compatible by default leading to problems if the recipient isn’t running the same software. It would be hard to justify upgrading from Office 2003, apart from the cost the extra functionality can only be appreciated by other Office 2007 users. First time Office users may find the experience less traumatic.

Although not a huge Microsoft fan there are some alternatives to this product. It does do exactly what is say's on the tin and is an important tool in the office space and improtant in terms of communicating with others and having compatible software.
